Welcome to another “Sexy Saturday”. The theme this week is “Are you sexy?”
As you hop around the blogs of authors participating, you’ll find lots of different interpretations on each theme. You’ll find some blazing hot excerpts with nothing held back, and you’ll find quieter expressions of intimacy and sexuality.
I’m one of the “quieter” ones.
Sexuality in fiction, for me, is much like it is in real life. My feeling is that a truly sexy woman doesn’t need to show herself off, nor does she need to call attention to her sexiness. She simply needs to be who she is. A woman shouldn’t try to be sexy. An alluring woman attracts with her personality, not with provocative dress or promiscuous actions.
Since I write traditional, “love-fashioned” love stories from the past, the women in my stories are only beginning to discover their sexuality. They’re falling in love for the first time. They’re learning about life. And what better way to learn than with a kind, caring young man to lead the way?
Knowing ourselves and our bodies is an important element of “being sexy”. In this sensuous little scene from Not the Marrying Kind, hero Joshua Barron helps Kat unleash her own natural sexiness.

“You’re not ready, darling,” he said, his voice hoarse with need.
Kat grabbed the edges of her shirt and drew them together. She lowered her gaze and seemed to shrink into herself. He’d left her unsatisfied, too, he realized. Even though she’d never been with a man before, her body craved release.
Joshua’s throat felt thick and swollen. He reached out, placed a thumb beneath Kat’s quivering chin, and slowly raised her face to his. “Before you can please a man, you have to know how to please yourself.”
“What are you talking about?”
As he’d expected, she had no idea what he meant, didn’t know the first thing about giving herself pleasure. With a gentle touch, he reached down and spread the shirt apart again, then he took Kat’s right hand in his and placed it on one breast. “Have you ever touched yourself like this?” he asked, slowly guiding her hand in the same slow circles he’d made earlier.
Kat’s mouth came open, her eyes widened, and she shook her head.
“Go on,” he urged, moving his hand away. “A woman has to know her own body, darling.”
